Year 8 Religion and values Ramadan Workshop

The month of Ramadan and Fasting

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims don’t eat or drink between dawn and sunset. This is called fasting. Fasting is important during Ramadan as it allows Muslims to devote themselves to their faith and come closer to Allah. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which form the basis of how Muslims live their lives. The other pillars are faith, prayer, charity and making the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

This year, one week before Ramadan started, our year 8 students participated in a Ramadan workshop at the Islamic Museum of Australia. The purpose of this workshop was to prepare students for a month of fasting and educate them about the important aspects of Ramadan. After the workshop they had a guided tour in the museum and found out many interesting facts about Islamic Arts, Science and Muslim life in Australia.
